Nallepilly Grama Panchayat – History and General Profile

Nallepilly Panchayat was constituted in 1952 with nine wards. Through the Panchayat election, Shri A.R. Mannadi Nair assumed office as the first President of the Panchayat. Prior to the establishment of the Panchayat system, the region was administered by several local rulers under the traditional feudal system.

Nallepilly Grama Panchayat was historically a part of the former Cochin State. Until the formation of Palakkad District on 1 October 1957, this area belonged to Chittur Taluk of the Thrissur Revenue District.

Nallepilly Grama Panchayat is a picturesque region where agricultural prosperity, cultural heritage, and the simplicity of rural life blend harmoniously. Comprising the areas of Nallepilly and Thekkedesam, the Panchayat is regarded as one of the notable examples of local self-governance in the region.

Spread over an area of approximately 28 square kilometres, the Panchayat is predominantly agrarian, with paddy cultivation being the principal agricultural activity. Other farming and allied agricultural practices are also widely carried out. Lush green fields, scenic landscapes, and a vibrant rural culture are among the distinguishing features of Nallepilly. Malayalam and Tamil are the commonly spoken languages in the area.

At present, Nallepilly Grama Panchayat is divided into 21 wards. Each ward ensures local representation and facilitates the efficient implementation of various development initiatives. The ward system plays a vital role in strengthening participatory governance and community involvement.

The Panchayat has achieved significant progress in sectors such as education, healthcare, drinking water supply, road infrastructure, sanitation, and social welfare. Educational institutions, public facilities, and various rural development programmes have contributed substantially to improving the quality of life of its residents.
