Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for managing the administrative affairs of Panchayati Raj institutions. As far as a Grama Panchayat is concerned, it is the primary committee that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and handles day-to-day administration. The Main Components of a Panchayat are President : The head of the Panchayat. They preside over meetings and supervise the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President : Discharges the duties of the President in their absence.Ward Members : Representatives elected from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees : Formed to streamline and ease the decision-making process of the Panchayat regarding matters such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Nallepilly Panchayat was constituted in 1952 with nine wards. Through the Panchayat election, Shri A.R. Mannadi Nair assumed office as the first President of the Panchayat. Prior to the establishment of the Panchayat system, the region was administered by several local rulers under the traditional feudal system. Nallepilly Grama Panchayat was historically a part of the former Cochin State. Until the formation of Palakkad District on 1 October 1957, this area belonged to Chittur Taluk of the Thrissur Revenue District.
